Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Yon was born on November 21, 1931 in Blountstown, Florida. She was the second child, and oldest daughter, of Elmore Boyd, Sr. and O'Neal McCullough Boyd's eleven children.
When her mother died at a young age, as the oldest daughter, she left school to help her father with her brothers and sisters. She later returned to High School as it was very important to her that she graduate with a high school diploma, an accomplishment of which she was justly proud.
She married George Coe and to that union a son, Derek, was born in 1954. Later she married Cletis Yon. In 1964 Cletis and Mary welcomed their daughter, Janice into the world and shortly afterwards moved to Sanford, Florida. Mary stayed in Sanford until her retirement, at which time she returned home to Blountstown. Her last move was in 2017 when she relocated to Montgomery, Alabama.
Mary was a woman of deep faith and was baptized a servant of Jehovah on July 12, 1980. She was an active member of the congregations in Sanford and Blountstown where she loved doing field service and bible studies with her many friends as well as attending assemblies and sorely missed them when she was no longer able to participate in those activities.
Nothing made Mary happier than being in the midst of her large extended family. She particularly loved being around the youngest children and had a lot of patience for their antics. She made a point to travel wherever a new grandchild or great-grandchild was living to cast her eyes on the newest member of her family.
Mary's home was always welcoming and everyone knew they could count on a place to sleep and good meal when they visited her, sometimes for just one night, other times for several months. Eating out was also source of great joy to her, and she especially enjoyed seafood and soul food restaurants.
In her 40's, Mary discovered a love of travel. Her first trip was to England and she later travelled overseas to Cameroon, West Africa, Dublin, Ireland and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as well as several places in the United States including California, Hawaii, North Carolina and Virginia. She even got to fly on the Concorde when a flight delay would have caused her to miss a connecting flight!
All her life, Mary was a caregiver, helping raise her younger brothers and sisters when their mother died. She also tended lovingly to her ailing father in her home, her aunt Lara Ash, her brother Milton and her sister Jeanette before their deaths. She had a particular soft spot for those who were struggling and she took many family members and friends under her wing, providing material and other support to them.
Mary departed her earthly life on August 3, 2019 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmore and O'Neal Boyd, her husband, Cletis Yon, ex-husband, George Coe, her sisters Georgia Ann Boyd and Jeanette Boyd, and her brothers Milton Boyd and Henry Boyd.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her son, Derek (Michelle) Coe, Millbrook, AL, her daughter, Janice Grant, Sanford, FL, brothers, Watios (Maggie) Boyd, San Jose, CA, Monroe Boyd, Sanford, FL, Elmore (Juanita) Boyd, Blountstown, FL, William Boyd, Marianna, FL, Jesse Boyd, Blountstown, FL, and one sister, Dollie Jean Boyd, Blountstown, FL; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Sarita) Grant, Altamonte Springs, FL, Michaela (Ron) LaFond, Lorton, VA, Kieran (Candrianna) Coe, Austin, TX, Latonya Grant, Sanford, FL, Delores Coe, Montgomery, AL, Kaitlin (Cornelius) Jackson, Montgomery, AL, Sinéad (Najgee) Gaston, Atlanta, GA and Tomás (Victoria) Coe, Millbrook, AL; eleven great-grandchildren, J'Asia, Mya, Anthony, Mahogany, Ava, Beroy, Marley, Natalia, Erika, Gabriella and Liam; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
