Pauline Legrand Holland was born June 28, 1938 in Opelika, Alabama, the beloved daughter of the late Jacob and Emma Legrand. One of 18 children, Pauline accepted Christ early in her life at A.M.E Zion Church in Opelika, Alabama. Pauline and her late husband of 42 years, John Wesley Holland was united in marriage on June 21, 1958 in Tuskegee, Alabama, and to this union five children were born. In 1960, the couple moved to Fort Walton Beach. Pauline is a retired school teacher after 20 years of dedicated service with Okaloosa County School District. After earning her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from The University of West Florida, Pauline began her career as a Third Grade teacher at Combs New Heights Elementary. Pauline spent her retirement years travelling, gardening, and enjoying family and friends. As a long-time faithful and dedicated member of Gregg Chapel A.M.E., Pauline served in many capacities that included as a member on The Usher Board, The Scholarship Committee, a Sunday school teacher, and serving the homeless before the sudden decline in her health.As Pauline slept peacefully through the night God who doeth all things well, saw fit in his infinite wisdom, mercy and justice to call to Himself His own during the early morning hours on January 13, 2017. Pauline will be remembered for her wisdom and understanding and her great love and concern for people.She leaves to cherish her memory: Her two daughters, Annette of Fort Walton Beach and Theresa (Rev Anthony) McKinnie of Chipley; three sons, Michael of Coral Springs, Kenneth and Donald (Judy) of Fort Walton Beach; two sisters, Grace Lewis of Birmingham, AL and Leila Pearl (Roosevelt) Smitherman of Montgomery, AL; three sister-in-laws, Gail Wilson of Auburn, AL, Hazel (Lincoln) Jefferson and Sarah Buchanan of Detroit, MI, Belinda Jackson and brother-in-law Terry of Clarksville, Kentucky; special family member, Stephanie of Fort Walton Beach; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
